FAQ

I'm so out of shape! Let me get in better shape and then I will join your academy!

This is by far one of the most common comments we always hear! It is like saying, "let me get in better shape, and then I will join that health gym!" You join the health gym so you CAN get into better shape.

Same thing with our Martial Arts academy. In addition to our self defense goals, we also focus heavily on fitness and health. Matter of fact, many of our students have lost A LOT of weight since being in our Martial Arts programs! So do not wait to get into shape before joining us...get in shape BECAUSE you joined us!

What style Martial Art do you teach?

Our core Martial Art style is American Freestyle Tae Kwon Do. However, it is mixed with Karate, Boxing, and Jiu Jitsu. Our style is a mix of traditional Martial Arts as well as practical Martial Arts. Our style allows our students to develop well rounded skills in the Art as well as realistic Self Defense.

When are your classes?

We hold classes during the week between the hours of 4:00pm to 8pm, and Saturday mornings between 10am and 1pm. Click on the class schedule tab for specific class times. Class times vary depending on rank and age. Times that are outside our class schedule times are reserved for appointments and private lessons only.

How do I get started?

Simply give us a call or click on the “contact us” tab and submit us your information. We will contact you to set up your free exciting introductory lesson with one of our Black Belt instructors.

How often should I take class?

We ask that all our students come at least 2 times per week for them to stay consistent with learning the curriculum.

Do you offer private lessons?

We offer private lessons, but only for current students. We do not offer private lessons for outside academy students.

What should I wear to my first class?

After you set up your first lesson (introductory lesson), the only thing you will need to bring and wear to your first class is loose, comfortable clothes so you can move around easily in. In addition, bring a smile, and a positive attitude!

What is the atmosphere like?

The culture in our Academy is that of a clean and friendly culture with lots of smiles! At the Academy you will be surrounded by individuals that are determined to learn and cultivate themselves through the art of Tae Kwon do and Karate. Given that we focus so heavily on realistic self-defense there is a unique sense of seriousness that is a must. As such, there is a certain decorum, sense of respect, and discipline of procedure that sets the tone for how the dojo operates.

With that said, our Academy prides itself on all things having balance. As such, you will see happy faces, smiles, and despite the challenge - class is enjoyable and fun! If it is not fun, why come?!

Wait! I've never done Martial Arts before. I'm nervous! Is that normal?

Of course! Any new adventure can have a mix of emotions: excitement, anxiety, curiosity, etc. The butterflies that some feel are completely normal! In fact, overcoming any nerves is the first step in developing the courage that is one of the defining features of a real Martial Artist! Plus, our programs are designed to be “move at your own pace”. So, no pressure! You move through our curriculum as fast or as slow as you wish.

Isn't Martial Arts dangerous? I don't want to get hurt...

Aside from popular belief, Martial Arts is actually one of the safest sports there is. Less injuries occur in Martial Arts training than that of say football, basketball, or many other sports. Making sure our students are staying safe is one of our top priorities. We are a safe academy!

That being said, Martial Arts is a physical activity, and like most physical activities, there is always a slight risk of injury. It is important to practice and train in a safe manner as to minimize the risk of injury as much as possible to yourself and your fellow classmates.  We focus a lot on teaching our students how NOT to get hurt. We always make sure our students are practicing safely.
